Redemption Is Beginning

Gary Cooperberg
March 17, 2005

Pragmatism has no place in the Jewish State. If it did we would have disappeared before we even became a state. Placing our faith in a government, or even in a great former right wing general of the IDF is clearly a mistake. There can only be one object of our faith and that is in our Creator. Clearly He has been performing miracles which defy nature in order to keep His concept of Zionism intact.

Passover is less than a month away. We would do well to contemplate the many lessons that this holiday imparts to us. When we were slaves in Egypt, not only did we not have our own country, we had no reason to think that we would ever escape the bonds of slavery. Today, when we have our own country, it would seem that we cannot escape the bonds of slavery to our own fears of “What will the nations do to us if we act too Jewish?”

Shimon Peres made it clear that he believes the only way to save Israel is for us to begin to self destruct now in order to placate our enemies (and alleged friends). He and his cowardly ilk really think that we can bargain with our enemies in order to avoid war and make peace. It is truly a noble intention, but it is based upon futility. What these people refuse to recognize is that our enemies do not want us to partially self destruct. They want us to completely self destruct. Were Peres to be honest with himself he would realize that the peace he is seeking has only one partner. . . the total destruction of Israel. Yet even this will not daunt him. For Peres is truly prepared to exchange the Jewish State of Israel for an Arab state which “promises” to be nice to Jews.

Being pragmatists, our leaders have no choice. They “know” that Israel cannot exist without the backing of the USA. Thus, even at the risk of causing irrevokable harm to our nation, if we are to survive we must take steps to please our “patron”. The USA has always been our friend. . . until that friendship threatens her self interest. When there is a clash between Israel’s interest and that of the USA, then Jewish leaders go crazy. Throughout our modern history our leaders have jumped through hoops to try to keep the interests of both countries in a state of harmony. But there will come a time when this effort will simply not be possible. And that time is nearly upon us.

Sharon would like to believe that he has an iron-clad promise from George Bush that, in return for abandoning parts of our country, we will not be pressured into abandoning what is left. Even if he had such a promise, as history has always shown us, it would be worth nothing. Promise or no promise, when American interests are threatened, America will do what is good for America. But the fact is that Sharon doesn’t even have the promise that he would like us to believe he has!

We have been to this movie before. If our enemies would have won any of the wars which were waged against the Jewish State by them, there would be no Jewish State today. It would seem that the USA would like us to apologize for winning those wars by, at least partially, surrendering to our enemies in, what Arafat liked to call, “the peace of the brave”. It should really be called “the peace of the stupid”.

We have allowed ourselves to accept lies and utopian delusions to lull us into believing that by surrendering to murderers we will achieve peace. There is not one shred of evidence to support these delusions. All of the Arab nations, and much more so the PLO, are totally dedicated to the destruction of the Jewish State. This is an Islamic imperative which, unlike the Judaism of Peres and Sharon, is not negotiable.

In times of desperation people demonstrate their true nature. Strong people do not bend their principles, even when it seems things are hopeless. Cowards will do anything to avoid strife. We expect those whom we appoint to be our leaders to be strong, courageous, honest, and principled. Unfortunately we have not been blessed with such leaders. No genuine Jewish leader would ever consider surrendering to our enemies, even when the odds are against us. What kind of leadership voluntarily surrenders to a weaker enemy which has clearly and unequivocally demonstrated its determination to destroy us? Rather than totally obliterating this intolerable entity, as true morality obliges us to do, we have chosen to surrender to it and help it get stronger! This isn’t even pragmatism. It is nothing short of cowardice and lunacy!

This is precisely the kind of situation which our rabbis predicted centuries ago. It is clearly indicative of the fact that redemption is already underway. The night is always darkest right before dawn. We have not earned a speedy and glorious redemption, so we seem to be getting a slow and painful one. Most will succumb to fear and give up hope. But those with genuine faith will understand that, although we are being punished for our sins, there is no power on Earth that can stop Jewish redemption. May HaShem have mercy upon us and grant us the strength to stand with Him in this difficult hour.

Project Shofar is dedicated to spreading these truths wherever it is possible to do so. It is sounding the alarm, to Jew and Gentile alike, to open our eyes to the G-dly process that is presently underway, and work to support it. We dare not stand idly on the sidelines.
