Leadership without Ideology
Gary Cooperberg December 26, 2005
Sharon’s new party, Kadima, recently announced some of the principles outlining its ideology. They declare that they recognize that all of the Land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel. However, in order to maintain both the Jewish and democratic nature of the state, it is necessary to give up on parts of our homeland.
This is neither a new nor a particularly clever ideology. . . if it is, indeed, an ideology at all. If the Land of Israel truly belongs to the People of Israel, why would anyone consider voluntarily abandoning any part of it? Should we lose parts of it in a war, that is not within our control. But how can anyone justify willingly abandoning that which belongs to us? Perhaps the authors of this convoluted statement do not really believe that the Land of Israel does belong to the Jewish People.
Our genius politicians, rather than negotiating with our enemies, are negotiating with themselves. Since, clearly, they have no qualms about yielding on our most basic principles, they assume that our enemies are similarly unprincipled. They are wrong. The Arabs consider the Jewish State to be an illegal occupier of Arab land. Their struggle will never end until there is no Jewish State. Yet our leaders refuse to recognize this irrefutable fact and continue to give our enemies hope that they will eventually realize their heinous goal. The one sided unilateral surrender of Gaza did nothing but bolster the morale of our enemies and make them believe that by continuing to attack Jewish civilians Israel will yield even more of her homeland to them. . . and they are right.
Had Sharon even an iota of self respect and common sense he would have linked his giveaway of Gaza to the giveaway of Arabs living in Israel. How is the Jewish nature of the state protected when we make part of our homeland Judenrein, yet we continue to permit the rest of it to be inhabited by Arabs who seek our destruction? If Sharon wants to build up Abu Mazan and give him an independent state, why does he not insist that all Arabs in Israel move to that state? No one would dream of seeing even one Jew living in PLO territory. But Sharon is actually planning to have PLO members become ministers in his next government! Insanity is too kind a word for such logic.
Honesty is a quality which is missing in our government. Of course everyone wants peace. But peace, by definition, must be mutual, not unilateral. Until the day comes when the lion grazes with the sheep one would be out of his mind to unilaterally turn the sheep over to the lions. Yet this is precisely what our government is doing. It is making “peace” as our “partners” are murdering our citizens!
Why is it so hard to see the bare facts? The PLO was created for the sole purpose of replacing Jewish Israel with Arab “Palestine”. This purpose has never changed. Yet there is not one party in our Knesset which is not prepared to negotiate our existence with these murderous enemies. The only way to deal with such enemies is to either remove them or destroy them. Clearly this is what they are seeking to do to us. Until we find a government which is willing to recognize these facts and do something about them we will continue to be murdered and maimed by our “partners”.
