There Is No Other Way

Gary Cooperberg
November 8, 2006

How long can our leadership ignore the fact that we are at war? The presumption that our surrender of Gaza to the PLO will somehow reduce the danger to our population has clearly been proven false. Not only has the danger not been reduced, but it has vastly increased! Our enemies are massing enormous amounts of advanced weaponry from Egypt and continue to fire missiles at our civilian population. When the IDF retaliates, even our own news media concentrate on reporting Arab civilian casualties. This further weakens the morale of our own population and makes waging war nearly impossible.

When the Prime Minister and Defense Minister both give priority to examining how civilians are killed in army operations they are clearly aiding and abetting the enemy in time of war. While we certainly do not want to injure women and children, we cannot allow our enemies to use their women and children to prevent us from defending the nation. In the history of nations there has never been a war in which any side hesitated to attack owing to unavoidable civilian casualties to the enemy population. The only reason why this is happening in Israel is because our leadership fails to recognize the war! One cannot win a war unless he recognizes that there is one. If we don’t win the war, and if we don’t lose the war, then we have a situation of endless casualties on both sides.

War is a hateful thing. But peace has never resulted from pretending that there is no war. On the contrary. History has taught us that the only path to the best kind of peace we can achieve in this world, is to win the war decisively and quickly. There is no other way. The IDF is perfectly capable of winning this war. We have no right to allow the fear of bad publicity to force us to allow our enemies the luxury of continuing to wage war with us. Our leaders have a priority obligation to protect Israel from her enemies by destroying them decisively.

If we had genuine leadership we would immediately repossess Gaza and dispossess all Arabs in our country, including Judea and Samaria. It is time to stop being nice to our enemies and pretending that suicide bombers are civil rights demonstrators. This is our only homeland. It is tinier than any of the 22 Arab homelands in our region. There is no sane reason why we need to find a way to enable our Arab enemies to live here when there are so many Arab lands where they can make their homes.

Years of self hating propaganda has convinced too many of our people that the Arab enemies living in Israel are oppressed underprivileged citizens. We are constantly told that we have no choice but to live with them, even as our civilian population is bombed on buses and in restaurants. This is an out and out lie and it has cost far too many lives, both Arab and Jewish. The only humane way to end the suffering and give peace a real chance is to remove our hostile enemy population from our midst with an iron fist. All of our enemies must learn that any attack upon Israel will result in a swift and brutal response aimed to destroy those who seek to destroy us. There is no other way.
