Accepting our Destiny
Gary Cooperberg
February 18, 2007
The recent controversy over Israel rebuilding a bridge to the Temple Mount only accents this countrys absolute lack of self respect. Our enemies were created to act as a mirror to show us our errors. All of the angry rhetoric being spewed forth by Arab terrorist leaders displays the kind of attitude Israel should have had when the Arabs were destroying ancient relics from the Temple Mount while engaged in building a mosque there.
This is our holiest site in the world and we deny our own people the right to pray there rather than offend Islamic thieves. If this is really our holy site why do we refuse to protect it from those who are stealing it right under our noses?
This issue is merely the most flagrant example of Jewish lack of self respect. The fact is that our leadership has consistently failed to make it clear, to friend and foe alike, that the Jewish State belongs to the Jewish People. When our very right to our own homeland is challenged by Arabs who seek to take it from us, our best reaction is to sit down and try to bargain with them! By so doing we are aiding and abetting the thieves and broadcasting to the world that we dont really believe that the Land of Israel belongs to us! It is this attitude, more than any other factor, which has encouraged terrorism and guarantees its continuation.
There is no political leader on the scene in Israel who has shown the ability or desire to, once and for all, declare Israel to be the Jewish State it was always meant to be. It is our own leadership which has rejected the very reason for having declared a Jewish State in the first place. If Israel is only a new democracy in the Middle East, then how can we honestly call it a Jewish State? If it belongs to Arabs, Jews and Christians alike, then what right do we have to call it a Jewish State? By so doing we open the door to claims of racism!
The gravest danger to the Jewish State today is the absolute refusal of our leadership to accept the very purpose for which this state was established. . . to be the only homeland for the Jewish People. No one negotiates his homeland. Even the Arab thieves who claim that Israel belongs to them do not pretend to negotiate with us. They seek to destroy us and take everything for themselves. If we are stupid enough to give them parts of our homeland they are willing to take whatever they can get the easy way, and then take the rest the hard way, when and if we ever decide to stop giving ourselves away.
The Living G-d of Israel has performed countless miracles to return us to the Land of Israel. He has enabled us to defeat overwhelming enemies in wars which logically should have seen us wiped out altogether. But the greatest miracle of all is the fact that we have been able to survive our suicidal leadership after all of these years! Any other country cursed with such a government would have perished even before it was established. Yet we continue to grow, develop and thrive! This is the greatest miracle of all and should serve as undeniable proof that we are under G-ds direct protection.
Redemption continues, even as we fail to recognize it. We will know when we are very close when there arises in Israel a genuine leader who refuses to negotiate our birthright and who is not afraid to tell the President of the United States that the only roadmap to peace is a strong Jewish State in all of our homeland. The Arabs have 22 countries, every one of which is far larger than Israel. If they want to create yet another one let them do it in Saudi Arabia or Tunis. There is no room in Israel for such a state, nor do we have a right to consider such a concept. The rebirth of Jewish sovereignty in the ancient Land of Israel was nothing less than the beginning of fulfillment of Biblical destiny. This is not something we can bargain with or reject. It is not dependent upon our agreement or our acceptance. It is simply a preordained G-dly process which cannot be altered by anyone. When our own leaders behave as if the State of Israel is just another democracy and think that they can create their own morality by voting their own whims, they reject the G-dliness of our homecoming and invite needless tragedy.
Israel was destined to be a nation that stands alone, not to be reckoned among the nations of the world. We were destined to be a light unto the nations, not to stand in their shadows. The tools for fulfilling our destiny are already in our hands. It is we who constantly reject them. World peace will never result from Israel giving land to the PLO. World peace will result when Israel accepts her responsibility to serve the Living G-d of Israel. When we return to our homeland and accept the Torah as the foundation of our moral conduct and Law of the Land, only then will the nations recognize the reality of our Creator and thus usher in a new world of genuine peace.
Notice: Due to scheduling problems my upcoming trip to the states has been postponed. I hope to announce the new dates in my next Voice from Hebron commentary.
