Subtle Treason

Gary Cooperberg
June 26, 2007

Ehud Olmert may have gone to Sharam El Sheik to run for Prime Minister. He spoke passionately to our alleged "peace partners" and presented a very idyllic plea for peace. I am sure much of the Israeli public as well as our American friends found this rhetoric very pleasing. While the terminology and warmth clearly radiated a hopeful and outstretched hand to our Arab enemies to make peace with us, his assertions and expressions revealed either an abysmal ignorance of the well established facts of the last 59 years, or just a clever attempt to salvage his badly damaged image as a leader. It is very hard to imagine that Olmert is ignorant of this country's consistent failed efforts to convert our intractable enemies into peace partners.

While it may have sounded reasonable for him to compare the passion and pain of the parents of our captive soldiers to that of families of imprisoned Arab terrorists, he seems to have forgotten the innumerable instances of parents of Arab terrorists who blessed their children who had become human bombs just for the purpose of murdering Jews. For him to have unilaterally released so many prisoners without any reason to assume that our captives will be released bordered on lunacy.

It would seem that all of our leaders have taken leave of their senses if they think that arming and financing Arafat's successor will some how be beneficial to Israel. Rather than taking advantage of a clear miracle which saw Hamas and Fatah fighting one another, and stepping in to destroy both, our leadership chooses to place its money on one band of terrorists above another in the futile hope that this will bring us peace.

Had we an honest leadership, it would accept the failure of our abandonment of Gaza. Rather than trying to find diplomatic means to stop the terror rained upon us in reaction to our magnanimous gesture to appease our enemies, we should have mounted a relentless campaign, not merely to return our total control over Gaza, but to completely remove all of our enemies from there. Rather than give more guns and money to the PLO, or calling for Jordan to send in troops to Judea and Samaria, we should remove the PLO from Jewish soil completely. Have our leaders gone completely mad by hoping our enemies will save us? Have we lost every shred of self respect and common sense?

Upon what basis does our Prime Minister presume to tell our enemies that he seeks to give a band of terrorists their own state upon Jewish soil? Because they have been murdering our populace for so many years and demanding that we leave our homeland, our leaders seek to make peace by negotiating our very existence with those whose only reason for being is to destroy us? One doesn't plead with terrorists. One destroys them. There is no other way. We have been playing this "peace" game for too long. In world history the only way peace has ever been achieved is by decisively winning a war. This country has never decisively won a war. We are still fighting our War of Independence! We have spent 59 years giving "peace" a chance, and we are farther than ever from that goal. When will we find a leadership with the courage to admit that we were wrong, and, at long last, give war a chance. Were we to decisively win and completely route our enemies, only then would there be hope to establish peace with them.
