B"sd Will the Candles on America’s Birthday Cake Glow, or be Extinguished? Gary CooperbergJune 12, 2008The United States of America was created by Englishmen who felt oppressed by the British monarchy. They embarked upon a bold new experiment to create a country that was governed by the people rather than by a ruling class. The concept of equality and democracy brought a beacon of new hope in a world of darkness and oppression. In addition to the desire to build something modern and establish an atmosphere of freedom and justice for all, the founding fathers were also men of faith. . . Bible scholars who truly believed in the Creator of the Universe. While they clearly were opposed to the idea of a national church, such as existed in Great Britain, they were adamant that G-d be a full partner in this new experiment. The concept of separation of church and state was never meant to take G-d out of government. It was meant to permit all people to worship G-d according to their beliefs rather than force a singular national observance upon the entire nation. Today this concept has been abused and distorted to the point in which efforts have been made to forbid recognition of G-d as a national concept. This clearly defies the intentions of our founding fathers. While it is certainly reasonable that atheists have the right not to believe in G-d, it is an outrage to suggest that the entire country should deny G-d so as not to offend atheists! As we approach the two hundred and thirty second anniversary of the establishment of the United States, we would do well to consider how far we have drifted from the noble ideals of those who founded this country. While most still do pay lip service to the concept of the Creator, few take that concept seriously. Our leaders look down upon our historically faith-based system of government as out dated and out of tune with the new world of modern technology and fluctuating moral standards. Our leaders feel justified to dictate what morality is today. Thus they have rejected Biblical morality for what seems right in their eyes. Such a stance invites chaos and self destruction. Unless we have the courage to stand by Biblical morality, especially when it seems to conflict with our modern views, we are breaking the bond we have had with G-d and the very reason why the United States became the greatest nation in the world. Israel and America have common roots. Both won their independence from Great Britain. And both looked at the Bible as a guide for their development. While the government of Israel is making the same mistakes and putting the Jewish State in grave danger, the United States does not have the G-dly Promise, as does Israel, that it will never be destroyed. If Israel tries to deny its destiny, she will suffer for that defiance, but her destiny will prevail in any event. If the USA chooses to reject G-d as a partner, she sows the seeds of her self-destruction. The key to preventing such needless tragedy lies with the tiny Jewish State. Her regained sovereignty and continued existence are clearly Divine miracles which defy nature. It is the beginning of fulfillment of Biblical prophesy which serves as clear proof that G-d is running the show in spite of our efforts to shape our world in defiance of Biblical destiny. Peace will never result from appeasing Israel’s enemies. Those who participate in such efforts bring only tragedy upon themselves and their nations. Bush’s “road map” is a map to self destruction. Unless it is changed to the map of the Bible, America will cease to be the great nation it is.. I will be in the United States on Independence Day. I will sound the Shofar and bring a message of hope to those who care to listen. I am willing to go anywhere where my message is welcome.
