Power of Faith

There are so many political games being played all over the world that it is difficult for the common man to comprehend what is going on. Ever since 9/11 President Bush has been mounting a war on terror that few, if any, really understand. We never caught the alleged culprit of world terror, Bin Ladin, yet we did bomb Afghanistan. Did it help? The USA is now on high alert for a new outbreak of terror, but no one seems to know from where or what the target is. For months President Bush has been pointing his finger at Saddam Hussein, warning him to give up his weapons of mass destruction or else... We are all still waiting for the "or else". And, of course, Israel is expected to help fight terror by being prepared to appease our local PLO terrorists by rewarding them with a new state on Jewish soil! Didn't Prime Minister Sharon declare that George Bush is the best friend Israel has ever had among all Presidents? Why then is he provoking Saddam into unleashing unconventional weapons against Israel? Surely if we really wanted to finish off Saddam, the IDF could do it swiftly and efficiently without any outside help. So what is with all this saber rattling?
Arafat, our own personal Bin Ladin, is under our control. One would expect, at the very least, that we put him on trial for mass murder and then execute him. Why do we continue to protect him, even after he has been declared "irrelevant"? Why does Prime Minister Sharon, formerly described as the most radical hawk on the political scene in Israel, press so hard for the leftist labor party to join with his government? Why does he insist upon promising to build a PLO state when and if the terrorists repent? One would certainly have expected such a man, after having received a clear mandate from the Israeli people, to just behave like the soldier he is and wipe out the PLO once and for all. What is this nonsense about negotiations with them?
Could it be that things are not at all as they appear? Given the history of our disappointments with our political leaders, it is certainly understandable that so many good people are up in arms in condemnation of our Prime Minister. Indeed, Oslo was a criminal act and should have been terminated long ago. Clearly Arafat should have been killed for crimes against humanity. Surely the PLO and all of its supporters should have been removed from Israel, if not destroyed altogether. Who, more than Ariel Sharon, could have been expected to have done these most basic and logical things?
We are living in an age where war is far more dangerous than ever before. Man literally has the capacity to destroy the planet. The most moral act of war carried out in this century was probably when Prime Minister Menachem Begin chose to destroy the Iraqi nuclear reactor without getting world approval. In immediate response he actually got world condemnation. It was only recently that it has become evident that this act may have saved literally millions of innocent lives.
Today it is apparent that there is a world wide network of Islamic terrorist groups dedicated to world domination. These people are fired by a religious fervor which sees many prepared to commit suicide to further their cause while murdering and maiming countless innocents. Most leaders of Arab countries are, at least to some degree, supportive of the religious ideology which inspires these groups. And some actively support them both financially and by giving them physical asylum in their countries. Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Libya are but a few which come to mind as active supporters of terror. Is it possible to launch an all out war against all of these countries? Arab oil wealth has been skillfully used to invest in creating political influence in western countries, especially in the United States. I daresay that when President Bush initiated his effort to cut off funding to terrorist groups, he may well have uncovered far more than he bargained for. The serpent's tentacles may well be much more far reaching than we can imagine.
Why is it that the EU seems to be so supportive of the "poor palestinians", and so critical of Israel? Is it not possible that well placed Arab investments in those countries are already being exploited in political coin? Nations, as a rule, act in accordance with what they perceive as in their best interests. We may hear lip service paid to such grand concepts as world peace and humanitarian interests, but the fact is that all fall by the wayside when pressure is applied by power wielding sources. The Islamic threat to our world is probably far more serious than most would dare to think.
These concepts are certainly frightening. The very idea that the office of the President of the United States might be subject to such pressures is more than sobering. If we are playing a numbers game it truly looks like we are losing. Yet we, the Jewish People, even on a pragmatic level, hold the key to surmounting this frightening challenge. We have been the eternal minority on the world scene. We have been hated and rejected by every world power in history. Yet they are all gone and we are still around. We have even begun to return to our ancient homeland and to rebuild Jewish sovereignty here. What is our secret that has enabled us to survive against impossible odds? It really isn't a secret at all.
The Creator of the Universe has always wanted all of His creations to recognize Him. World history revolved around the question that Pharaoh asked of Moses, "Who is this G-d of Israel? I never heard of Him." The rest of world history continues to be comprised of the answer to that question. The Jewish People exist as proof of the existence of the G-d of Israel. The day is rapidly approaching when the majority of nations will gather against the Jewish State, bent upon its destruction. They will do this in a vain attempt to prove that our G-d does not exist. Their "proof" is destined to fall upon their own heads as they become the very cause of their own self-destruction.
So, while most will act upon what they see with their eyes and side with what seems to be the greatest power, even be it an evil power, those who read the Bible and truly trust in the Living G-d of Creation, will go against the odds. Israel will certainly survive even incompetent leadership, because she is truly an instrument of G-d. The degree of our suffering or success will be determined by our actions, but the end result will never be destruction. And the future of all of the nations of the world will be determined by how they related to the Jewish State in her time of apparent peril.
