A Letter to an Arab Terrorist
Gary Cooperberg
March 9, 2003

Dear Machmud,

I know that you think you are a hero to your people. You are preparing to die for the cause of liberating "Palestine" from the Jewish People. Perhaps you read about how the Jews gained their liberty from the British by acts of terror. The great British Empire finally folded and left as a result of Jewish terror. Of course the Jews never resorted to indiscriminate murder of women and children, as you are preparing to do, but the concept, to instill fear and hopelessness in the enemy, is really all that matters. How long can the Jews stand up to continuous acts of terror which can occur at any time, in any place and to any victim?

Machmud, I am sure that you really think that "Palestine" is your homeland and that we Jews stole it from you. This is what your teachers have told you, and this is why you are preparing to sacrifice your life. I respect your commitment to a cause in which you truly believe. But, I must tell you, you are giving your life for nothing. Yes, you may succeed in blowing yourself up with a busload of children going to school. You can inflict terrible pain and suffering upon the Jewish State. But the truth is that your cause is a lie. There never was a Palestinian state, nor a Palestinian People. Your leaders created this fiction and nurtured you upon it for the sole purpose of creating human bombs like you in order to destroy Israel. Although you, Machmud, may be a true ideological soldier, your cause will never succeed because your ideology is based upon lies.

The Jewish People are not colonizers as were the British. They are the original owners of the Land of Israel. We have been exiled for nearly two thousand years. During this time we have wandered from country to country just trying to blend in. Our destiny never let this happen. In every country of our exile, although we did our best to become good citizens and contributed much to the welfare of those countries, we were eventually driven out. The G-d of Israel has punished us by making us wander all over the world, and never be accepted anywhere. He Promised us, thousands of years ago, that He would eventually return us to our eternal homeland, the Land of Israel. And when He does, we will never again go into exile.

All of this may sound like nonsense to you, Machmud. But take a little time and study human history. We Jewish People have existed ever since the time when Pharaoh ruled in Egypt. We have been a hated minority under every great empire ever since. Yet all of those empires have withered and fallen, and we, that tiny oppressed minority, are still around. But more than that, after having been oppressed, enslaved, beaten, murdered, and nearly annihilated, we have, at the most weakened stage of our development, picked up our scattered and bedraggled remnants and come home to our ancient homeland, Zion, the Land of Israel. We were too weak and tired to think of waging war. All we wanted was a little piece of our homeland to call our own. All we wanted was to be left alone to lead our special way of life in Israel.

But your grandfathers could not accept this. They wanted none of it. When the Jews, for the sake of peace, agreed to accept a tiny portion of what rightfully belongs to us in exchange for peace, your grandfathers refused to accept this gracious offer and strove to destroy the tiny group of refugees. Yes, we were tired. We were tired of being driven out of every country in the world. We were tired of being hated and murdered just because we are Jews. But we were also tired of being in Exile. Never again will we accept the status of being strangers in someone elses homeland. At long last we have come home to Israel. We will never ever leave again. You must remember, Machmud, we are not like the British who were trying to extend their rule over foreign colonies. We are the original owners of this Land. We have an eternal mandate from the Living G-d of Creation to live in this Land. We have been persecuted, expelled, tortured, murdered and nearly annihilated by the most fiendish people ever created. Do you really think that blowing yourself up on a school bus will get us to give up on the dream of Zion which is already beginning to be fulfilled? No way. We have come too far and suffered too much for even your most outrageous act of horror to dissuade us from continuing our destiny unto completion.

Yes, you can hurt us. Perhaps it is punishment we deserve for failing to live up to our responsibilities as Jews. But you can forget about liberating "Palestine". There never was a Palestine and there never will be. As one who lives and is prepared to die for his ideology, you should already understand the kind of strength that has enabled the Jewish People to nurture the dream of Zion for nearly two thousand years. You must admit that your own cause is not more than fifty years old. Do you really think you have a chance at defeating such a people? If you do, then go ahead, blow yourself up. But think carefully, Machmud. Your end will not be in paradise. Your false people will never rise. The Jews have a written guarantee from G-d Himself which is already being fulfilled! You are attacking the Living G-d of Creation. By so doing you are only condemning yourself to eternal Hell.
