Are We Stupid?

Gary Cooperberg
March 23, 2004

I used to hate watching the international news services on television because everyone interviewed on the topic of Israel consistently bashed our country. Now I hate it even more because representatives of the Israeli government who are interviewed consistently express the most stupid suppositions possible and make us all look like idiots.

The foreign ministry certainly has an obligation to explain governmental policy and to defend the government of Israel. But to weave outlandish stories not only fails to convince anyone, rather it makes us look worse than our enemies are already doing.

Ahmed Yassin was a terrorist leader. He deserved to be killed. We should not be apologizing for doing what any normal country should do. If Roosevelt would have targeted and killed Adolph Hitler, I doubt that the world would have gone into an uproar. But, even had such a thing happened, it certainly would not have been enough. Killing one person, even an important leader, doesn't win a war. Targeting leaders only angers our enemies and makes them even more dedicated to destroy us. If we had a policy to win the war, we could have and should have turned Yassin's funeral into a mass funeral for all of the mourners.

If, as Israeli government leaders have all said, Yassin was a terrorist leader, then it stands to reason that all those who mourn his death are at least supporters of terror. As such all such people are enemies of the Jewish State and should be destroyed! I was appalled to hear a representative of my country explain to FOX news that most of the Arabs are not terrorists and really want peace. According to him, if we can get rid of the terrorist leaders, then good Arab leaders will arise and become peace partners to whom we can happily give away parts of our country! This is completely sick, aside from ridiculous.

There is no legitimate "Palestinian" people. There never was. The Jewish State chose to permit Arab migrants who were living in Israel to remain and even to become citizens. Rather than accept this offer of goodwill, our "guests" have overstayed their welcome and declared that it is their intention to take our country from us. And what is our response? We want to negotiate! And what is their response? Bombs! And, in response to the bombs our leaders are still looking to negotiate. If this isn't self hatred I don't know what is.

The Arabs, in Israel and outside of Israel, seek to destroy the Jewish State. Those who live within our borders seek to destroy us from within. And even if there are some who do not want to destroy us, after having our loved ones murdered on buses and market places, we cannot afford the luxury of guessing which Arabs might not want to murder us. Until Israel opens her eyes to reality and decides to either destroy or at least remove our enemies from our midst, no amount of targeted assassinations or billion dollar walls will stop those committed to destroying us from committing further acts of horror.
